As many of you know, all youth organization rely heavily on volunteers. EYHA has been blessed over the years for having many highly devoted parents within the program. This spring we are looking for volunteers from each team to fill the position of Team Manager. 2011-2012 Mite House Finish a Terrific Season

Mite House 2011-2012 Finish a terrific season:

The 2011-2012 House Mites finished a fun and exciting season last Saturday with the largest group ever for the Evanston Wildkit’s House program as many new faces made up the ranks for the group of 70 skaters. The primary focus was skill development and fun which included group skill sessions and weekly cross ice games with the periodic exciting full ice games scattered through the season. Skill development was at an all time high through the implementation of the American Development Model recently introduced by USA Hockey which focused on small area games, drill stations and cross ice games allowing for each individual player to get the most out of their time at the rink. The high number of first year squirts who qualify registering for the Spring hockey sessions is a testament to this and is a great sign of things to come!

Special thanks to coaches who donated their time to the Mite House program this season: Nick Bellios, Jason Wagener, Pete Morich, Jim Lydon, Tom McDonnell, Andy O’Keefe, Joel Markowsicz, John Bryan, Brad Dunlap, Peter Fitzgerald and David Porter.

Delayon Morris Named the Chicago Blackhawks BMO Harris Bank Coach of the Month

Congratulations to our own Delayon Morris for being named the Chicago Blackhawks BMO Harris Bank Coach of the Month for March2012! Because of Del’s efforts and enthusiasm in hockey and in his community, he was a clear choice for the Hawks. Del will be recognized during an on-ice ceremony during a Blackhawks game on Sunday, April 1st, 2012 at 6:00pm.

Be sure to watch the game on April 1st.

Del has been with EYHA since 2006, and was the Peewee Silver and Junior Varsity Coach for the 2011-12 season. Del joins Coach Joe Heaton in this honor.

Evanston Varsity Hockey – Blackhawk Cup State Tournament

Evanston Varsity Hockey will begin its route to the Blackhawk Cup State Tournament finals. The

Varsity team will begin by playing Wheaton/Warrrenville Saturday, March 17th @ 4:35pm @ The Edge in Bensenville.

The winner of that game will continue on and play Monday, March 19th @ 6:40pm in Bensenville.

The Final and Championship game for the Varsity Red Division will be played on Wednesday, March 21st @6:40pm in

Bensenville. Hope to see Wildkit fans in the stands!

EYHA SQUIRT HOUSE RULES!

The sun has set on the 2011-2012 House hockey season, but not before BOTH EYHA Squirt house teams captured their respective titles in the North Shore Youth Hockey League.

On Saturday, March 10th, Squirt Team 2 defeated the Pleasant Prairie Patriots by a score of 6-2 to capture the NSYHL Squirt Silver B title. Balanced scoring and great defense and goaltending brought the hardware home for the Wildkits. Technically, it already was home as we hosted this playoff series, so we kept it here! The team advanced to the finals after concluding the round robin tournament on Friday the 9th, with an incredible 2-1 victory over a talented Saddle & Cycle team to advance to the finals the next day. The core was tied going deep into the third period before the Wildkits sealed the victory with a dramatic goal and then held on for the win. It is said Ella McGinley patted the photo of Mike Eruzione she keeps in her glove before her shift that resulted in this goal. The legend will no doubt be similar. Saddle had gone undefeated against both EYHA Squirt teams during the regular season, and the Patriots had handed the Wildkit team its only loss in the tourney. Congratulations to the entire team and thanks especially to the Coach Chris Papa and his fine staff of Pete Morich, Jason Wagener and John Bryan.

On Wednesday, March 14th, at Rinkside in Gurnee, IL, Squirt Team 1 caputured the NSYHL Squirt Silver A title, defeating a talented Lake Forest Winter Club squad by a score of 5-3. This completed a comeback against the team that had defeated the Wildkits in the final game of the round robin by a score of 6-1, and no one saw us coming. Despite facing what on paper was a huge mountain to climb, and battling the forces of rush hour traffic designed only to sap our will to fight, the Wildkits opened the scoring quickly, followed equally quickly by a LFWC goal. The tide then turned in the Wildkits favor, and our stated goal of winning every race to the puck led to several straight Wildkit tallies before the LFWC team mounted a valiant, but unsuccessful comeback against our tenacious defense, stalwart goaltending and desire to win. Plus, we didn’t want Team 2 to have all the fun. Congratulations to Coach Ed Brady and his fine staff of Sam Bodine, Steve O’Reilly and Ravi Baichwal.

The entire organization congratulates our Squirt teams on their impressive seasons, and sincerely thanks our parents and fans for their unending support. Go Wildkits!

2011-2012 House Peewees Finish Up a Successful Season

The 2011-2012 Wildkits Peewee house league team had one of its best seasons in recent history. After a strong season, they qualified as one of four teams in the top tier for the NSYHL playoffs (out of a 22 team league). The playoffs proved to be very competitive and tight checking. In their second game, they played an undefeated Wilmette team to a 4 – 4 tie. Unfortunately, Wilmette outlasted the Wildkits in a seven round shootout. That win put Wilmette on a course for the championship game, and left the Evanston team coming up just short of a chance to compete in the finals.

A special thanks goes out to the coaches who donated their time and expertise to the Peewee house league program this year: Stuart Wick, Jamie Talbot, Alex Pollack and Pete Fitzgerald.

2012 EYHA Spring Hockey Evaluations

The 2012 spring hockey season begins in April. This is a combined season for both travel and House League players. It’s a great opportunity for players who are contemplating a move to travel and a good way for travel players to keep skating through the spring. Evaluations will be held at Robert Crown (RC), on the following days:

EYHA to Host First Annual Equipment Exchange Day in Evanston!

As many of you know hockey is not a cheap activity. EYHA is always looking in different ways of helping every family offset the cost of playing hockey. This year we are organizing the first equipment drive!

Saturday March 10th from 1:30pm to 5:30 pm, all EYHA families are invited to participate by turning in any slightly used equipment that their players (skaters and/or goalies) have outgrown in exchange for bigger sizes. From sticks to skates and protective gear we look forward to having everyone participate. For more information please contact Diana Turcotte at 312-622-3385.

Evanston Varsity advances to the Quarterfinals of the Founders Cup

Evanston Varsity continues play this Saturday night

- February 18th @ 9:10pm @ West Meadows

The Wildkits will play against Fremd to see who advances on to the Semi-Finals.

The Semi-finals are scheduled for Wednesday night

-February 22nd @ 8:35pm @ Centennial Rink in Wilmette.

Evanston Varsity completed 5 games in the Founders Cup series with 2 wins,2 ties and 1 loss.

With 6 points total the Wildkits were able to secure a 3rd spot to advance on to the Quarterfinals.
