As many of you know hockey is not a cheap activity. EYHA is always looking in different ways of helping every family offset the cost of playing hockey. This year we are organizing the first equipment drive!

Saturday March 10th from 1:30pm to 5:30 pm, all EYHA families are invited to participate by turning in any slightly used equipment that their players (skaters and/or goalies) have outgrown in exchange for bigger sizes. From sticks to skates and protective gear we look forward to having everyone participate. For more information please contact Diana Turcotte at 312-622-3385.

As if possessed and looking to prove the skeptics wrong, the Mite Silver team dominated both games over this past weekend. On Saturday the Mite Wildkits played in front of a packed house and defeated the Winnetka Warriors 4-1. The star of the game was center Keaton Lillybridge who scored his first career hat trick. The game was also marked with goaltender Max Turcotte’s first career penalty shot save that eventually allowed the Wildkits to pull away with the victory.

The weekend ended on a high note with a 3-0 road victory in West Dundee against the previously undefeated Leafs. The Wildkits won the game behind goaltender Max Turcotte’s second shutout performance in less than a week. Max stopped all 35 shots directed in his direction and lowered his GAA to 1.89 . “From start to finish, a terrific team effort. As far as The Maxime is concerned, I’ve never seen anything like it” commented coach Joe Heaton. Gavin O’Hara was also a game standout with his defensive play and was awarded Coach Joe’s “Game Bone”.

With three games at hand the Wildkits now sit in fourth place and look to move up in the standings this coming weekend with 2 home games split up with a Saturday road game in Crystal Lake.

Evanston Youth Hockey Association is taking the first steps toward building a girls high school hockey team that would begin play in September for the 2012-2013 season. This team allows girls who attend or will soon attend ETHS to combine with other area high schools to give more girls a chance to play the greatest sport in the world.

The structure could entail ETHS continuing its current combination with Glenbrook North and South, or depending on interest level, create an additional team based in Evanston.Whether your daughter plays AAA hockey, has played travel or house hockey for years and is coming to the end of her youth hockey career, or is a speed skater, figure skater or other athlete who skates and wants to try the fastest game around, ETHS Girls Hockey could be a great place for you.

Girls HS hockey offers a unique opportunity for your daughter to be a part of great competition, team camaraderie and fun. Even if your daughter is still in middle school, we want to build a program that includes younger girls who can share in some of the fun while honing skills and getting ready for high school.

Date: Thursday, December 15
Time: 7:15 pm
Place: Robert Crown Recreation Center, 1701 Main Street, Evanston

EYHA Hockey Director JP Bordeleau will offer insight into how Girls HS hockey operates, including plans for a Spring league team that would give girls a chance to play together before next Fall.

Please RSVP to Pete Giangreco at pgiangreco@strategygroup.com

Andy Dickerson at ALDickerson@integrysenergy.com

Since Loyola and New Trier have existing teams, girls who attend or plan on attending those schools would not be eligible. Other schools may currently combine with existing teams, a topic that will be addressed at the meeting.

See you on December 8th!

Peter Giangreco and Andy Dickerson
