The 2-Choice Rule: AHAI Declaration Rules Explained
Travel Tier II hockey players in Illinois can skate for two organizations in their Mite through Midget playing careers.

The first Tier II organization you play for becomes your first choice. You will have only one other opportunity (choice) to play for another travel Tier II organization through the Midget level.

AHAI instituted this rule prior to the ’96-’97 playing season. If you played Tier II hockey prior to the ’96-’97 season or have since started playing Tier II hockey in Illinois, you have made your first choice. If during the ’96-’97 season, or if since you have played for a second Tier II organization, you have made your 2nd and last choice. Under certain circumstances a substitute choice may be granted.

Mite A2 participation does not count as a choice if state guidelines for A2 participation are followed.

Some travel organizations have restrictive policies in effect, which limit a player’s ability to move between his/her two choices. Evanston does not restrict players from returning if they play for another organization.

Detailed information will be handed out at try-outs.

All players and their parents who are playing travel Tier II hockey for the first time or who are changing organizations will be counseled by a Evanston Youth Hockey Association Board member.

All players and parents will be required to sign a “Two-Choice” Declaration Form when placed on any travel hockey team.
